Dark Blue Years/Events
were accomplished personally by Jack Smith - Siegerhof Trainer
This
list includes participation by the Siegerhof team and
our training partners in USA, WDA and DVG National and International Trials...plus, 100's of
SchH titles.
Les Flores, Paul Schneider (and
Glenn Bennett) attained exceptional National/International success while training with Jack Smith at Siegerhof and the GSSC.
The Siegerhof/GSSC
role in the National/International accomplishments of Les Flores (2000-2002)
and ONE time National success of Paul Schneider (1998)
Over the past few years we've
heard of different "spins" and denials about our role in the
Schutzhund sport accomplishments of Les Flores and Paul Schneider.
We did train with these dog-handler teams and because of that training, they
had great success at National and International Schutzhund competitions.
The REAL/TRUE record is clear!
** Contrary to their comments, the
training was done through sportsmanship and camaraderie without fee's, expense
reimbursement or compensation, what-so-ever. **
Les and Paul have spread rumors
and innuendo about our role, or lack thereof, in their accomplishments
and the training methods used to arrive at the major changes in their
scores, which was done in their presence, with their approval.
It's time that credit is given about our role in the
Schutzhund sport successes of Les Flores and Paul Schneider.
1.
Glenn Bennett with Buck von der Pfalz
had made SchH3 in 1988 and was training towards a goal of competing in
National/International events. Buck was the right dog for Glenn and Glenn was
driven to excel. Their tracking was solid and their obedience
was INCREDIBLE! There is no dog (EVER) which had been (truly) trained in
America (not in Germany and then TITLED in USA) that worked obedience as
consistently, accurately and spirited as "Buck". But, they
had major problems in protection. After a miserable showing at the
North American Championship in 1989, Glenn made the decision to start training
with us. (Even though it was a VERY long drive to training for him.)
Glenn with Buck
trained protection with Jack Smith and the GSSC from 1989 through 1994 and achieved
exceptional success in USA/National and WUSV/International competitions.
They were THE most
successful (truly) American trained, titled and handled (H.O.T.) German Shepherd in America.
They won/qualified for more National and International competitions than ANY other
(H.O.T.) dog-handler team in USA. Glenn and Buck
were an enviable team to watch in Schutzhund trials and competitions.
2. Paul
Schneider asked that we work with
him and his dog in preparation for the 1998 USA National Championship in Denver.
The protection was totally deficient to compete with National level dogs-handlers.
We worked extreme protection to overcome Paul's past training mistakes and had
to compensate for the
temperament of the dog. The final result at the 1998 USA National Championship
for Paul was 97 points in
protection and a 3rd place finish.

After this 1998
accomplishment, while training with us, Paul and his new training partner,
went on to the 1999 USA National Championship and the protection scores
were disastrous. (P:
22 points - C: 62 points)

3.
Les Flores and Ziggo came to Siegerhof in 2000
while making
82-84 points in protection at SchH CLUB/local trials. We used advanced protection training
techniques with
Ziggo and got his scores up to 94 to 98 at highly competitive National and
International competitions (not just local club events). Les and Dara Hunt-
Flores were very appreciative at the time of the success and gave Jack
total credit for their success AND the training education/knowledge that they
had received about instincts, drives and advanced training techniques/methods.
(We also trained with Dara's German Shepherd female which received her
HIGHEST score she had ever attained.)

Each of the
dogs handled by Les, Paul and Glenn were "broken" (in protection)
prior to training here. The
training had been sub-standard for so long that it took extreme
methods/techniques to over-come the problems with the training that had been
allowed for so many years. While training with Jack/Siegerhof/GSSC, all
made dramatic improvements in protection and had incredible successes.
Where are they now?
Summary -
As we all know, it's
difficult to find helpers/trainers to work with us to attain titles, much
less high scores in
major competitions. (We've had the same problem!) It's our feeling
people should
give credit to those that DO help us attain high scores and positions in
these tough National/International competitions.
It's been Les and Paul's "policy" to ignore/deny help they
received from us AND continually talk B.S. about us/those that did help them succeed. The
accumulative impact has finally become more than is tolerable. For this
reason, and ONLY this reason, we're making these points public.
(It's gone on
for 7-10 years - enough is enough!) JAS
